Special Educational Needs Assessment

JLS Consultancy is able to provide comprehensive assessment of children and young people’s care needs where there are issues relating to disability. Our Assessments also take into consideration the situation of not only the child but members of their family.

The purpose of these assessments is to systematically collect information to identify what, if any, services are required to enable the individual concerned to achieve their full potential. The assessments are also concerned with considering areas for development of an individual’s circumstances in order to inform decision-making in respect of future planning relating to their long-term living situation.

The 1989 Children Act provides the statutory framework from which the power to assess social welfare needs arises. Further, there is a duty under The Children Act 2004 and under s47 of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 placed on local authorities in respect of the assessment of need of disabled children.

Legislation places general and specific duties on local authorities and local education authorities respectively, to develop inter-agency plans to meet the needs of children, ‘provided these are compatible with the functions of the individual authorities’.

We have provided assessments for Judicial Review and Tribunal and have been referred to by Mr Felix Moss, Solicitor, as “the best” in terms of our assessments.

Following the preparation of an independent social work report to assess the community care needs of their child with severe disabilities, the parents commented:

“If we will be able to get the help they [JLS Consultancy] assessed we need – they will have SAVED the lives (in a mental form) of the entire family! ….. We have no words to express our thanks. It was an assessment of a dream.”
