Community Based Assessments
In our experience vulnerable parents, particularly those with learning disabilities, require specialist assessments.
We recognise these parents often need educational programmes combined with extended observations. We have developed skills designed to combine these elements within an integrated assessment tailored to the parents' individual capabilities and needs.
Our community based assessments allow families to remain living in their communities and within the familiar surroundings of home whilst maintaining links with their support networks, whether these are professional or personal.
Parents often find moving to a residential establishment for assessment is overwhelming and may result in placement breakdown.Parents cite anxiety and stress, particularly in relation to accommodation security and financial pressures as being influential in placement breakdown.
We are able to offer:
- Assessment within the service users’ home and community.
- Intensive levels of contact with service users, particularly during ‘out of hours’ and weekends, providing a high level of supervision in conjunction with observation and skills enhancement.
- Regular evaluation of progress.
- Specifically designed materials to work with parents who have learning disabilities.
In light of the recent proposals by the Legal Services Commission to reduce funding for residential assessments, this service is recognised to be a financially viable option.
